Elton John's life will soon become a biopic
By Charmaine Kerridge
Flamboyant rocker Elton John has given the go ahead for Billy Elliot writer Lee Hall to turn his “surreal” life into a film.
John is known as much for his musical talent as well as his well-documented struggles with drugs and alcohol, weight and relationship issues.
“It will be more of a fantasy, Moulin Rouge type of stuff,” John told BBC Radio. “Obviously, it’s not going to be your normal, run-of-the-mill film. My life’s been so surreal, from buying a football club to God knows what.”
John seems to have tamed his demons. He celebrated the birth of a son this month, has an enduring marriage to David Furnish, and has been clean and sober for more than 20 years.
“When I come offstage now I have a balance in my life. Until I found that in 1990, I came offstage and I didn’t know what to do with myself,” he said. “Now I fly home every night after a show and I get back in my own bed. I have a wonderful partner in David, I have wonderful friends. I can remember things. I don’t take drugs anymore.”

Elton John sorry for radio rant
http://blog.seattlepi.com/people/archives/237434.asp
Elton John has been forced to apologize after swearing during a live radio broadcast in the U.K. on Friday.
The "Rocket Man" hitmaker turned the air blue during an interview on the BBC's "Radio 2" after host Chris Evans told him that British musician Jools Holland likes to start his day by playing the piano.
Elton sighed and remarked, "Oh f**king hell."
The singer immediately said sorry for his foul-mouthed slip-up, telling listeners, "Sorry about that. I was just exasperated with that. I can't think of anything worse than getting up and playing the piano. It's what I do (for a living). I do play over 100 shows a year, and I make records.
"I'm very, very sorry for that awful word that I said. Jools, why do you do that?"
A spokesperson for the BBC says in a statement, "Both Sir Elton and Chris apologized many times on this morning's live Chris Evans Breakfast Show for the language used by Sir Elton. The BBC apologizes if any offense was caused."
Elton John Defends Rap Music
http://www.starpulse.com/news/index.php/2011/01/27/elton_john_defends_rap_music
Elton John is urging music fans not to "ridicule" rappers, insisting stars such as
Kanye West and
Eminem are "a phenomenon".
The
Rocket Man, who collaborated with West for a track on the hip-hop star's latest album,
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, is passionate about all kinds of music and he's urging non-rap fans to get acquainted with the genre.
The 63 year old tells
TeenMusic.com, "I never dismiss any form of music. I listen to everything. I'm on the new Kanye West record, for example. It's a genius record. I was on the Alice in Chains record...
"People who mock rap, and say, 'I don't like it,' they should go check out Kanye in the studio rapping. Or Eminem when he's in the studio. It's a phenomenon. Don't knock it until you've seen it." "It may not be your cup of tea (to your taste), but don't ridicule. I find that so many of my peers of my age don't listen to anything new. I love the new."
Moulin Rouge-esque Biopic of Tony Winner Elton John in the Works
http://www.broadway.com/shows/billy-elliot/buzz/155073/moulin-rouge-esque-biopic-of-tony-winner-elton-john-in-the-works/
Sir Elton John will see his life story told on the big screen in a biopic penned by his
Billy Elliot collaborator, bookwriter Lee Hall. The six-time Grammy Award winner told BBC Radio that his won’t be an everyday story.
"It will be more of a fantasy,
Moulin Rouge type of stuff," John told BBC Radio 2. "Obviously, it's not going to be your normal, run-of-the-mill film. My life’s been so surreal, from buying a football club to God knows what."
John and Hall first joined forces to adapt the 1999 Oscar-nominated film version of
Billy Elliot, for which Hall had written the screenplay, into a stage musical. The show went on to win 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The pair is rumored to be collaborating again on an upcoming musical adaptation of George Orwell’s
Animal Farm. Before
Billy Elliot, John had also penned music for Broadway's
The Lion King and
Aida. Hall was most recently represented on Broadway with
The Pitmen Painters, an experience he
wrote about for Broadway.com, and he is also adapting a screenplay of
War Horse for Steven Spielberg.
No details of the project have been announced, but John, who is a new father with partner David Furnish, will certainly be keeping busy in the immediate future. The pop icon is performing on a track of
Glee star Matthew Morrison’s
upcoming album, and if Morrison
has his way, John will also guest on the show itself, playing a love interest to Jane Lynch’s
Sue Sylvester.

First 'The Tempest', now a gnome version of Romeo? Shakespearean remakes must be hot in Hollywood!
'Gnomeo & Juliet' hits theaters today and before you walk in thinking it’s another animated movie from Touchstone Pictures, the film is produced by Sir Elton John and has a happy ending!
"From the word go it has taken 11 years to get this film out," Elton John revealed at the premiere outside of El Capitan Theater. "The last three or four years when we’ve made it has been easy but it’s had so many near-death experiences as a result of being in the Disney corporation. People didn’t really know what to do with gnomes in America."
When our PopStop team asked him what drew him to the film so much, he dished, “The story, the fun!"
So, will the happy duo bring their newborn baby Zach to watch?

Allen 'Speechless' Over Censored Elton John Family Photo

British singer LILY ALLEN has spoken of her shock after a magazine cover showing SIR ELTON JOHN with his partner and baby son was covered up in an American supermarket.
Bosses at an Arkansas grocery store placed a plastic "Family Shield" over last week's (begs17Jan11) Us Weekly, which featured the Rocket Man and David Furnish with their little boy, Zachary.
A spokesperson for the Harps shop claimed the couple's family photo was hidden after it sparked complaints from offended shoppers.
The move has prompted outrage from gay rights campaigners, and Allen has taken to her Twitter.com page to express her dismay.
Allen posts a link to an article about the issue, before writing: "Speechless about that Elton thing."
The two singers famously fell out while appearing onstage at a London awards show in 2008 when Sir Elton criticised Allen for being tipsy and drinking onstage.
She later took aim at the veteran star in her Who'd Have Known music video, which sees an Elton lookalike kidnapped and forced to declare his love for her.
Elton John styled by James Blunt

James Blunt once styled Elton John for one of his concerts.
The 'So Far Gone' hitmaker said he was feeling bad on his birthday last year as he was on his own in the US, but a kind gesture from fellow songwriter Elton John led to him styling him for a show.
James explained: "Last year, on my birthday, I was alone in Denver, eating chicken wings and drinking champagne, and thinking, 'What a miserable experience to be doing this on my birthday'.
"Then I got a call. It was Elton on the line, saying, 'Hey, I'm in Denver, too, doing a show with Billy Joel. Why don't you come and hang out in my dressing room, while I get ready?'
"So I went and helped him choose his stage clothes."
Elton is known for his trademark wacky glasses and likes to style himself in bright colours, and during his earlier career he was renowned for wearing spectacular outfits, including many jumpsuits in wild colours with lots of sequins and jewellery.
James, 36, added while he enjoyed the concert, he worried that people could misinterpret his front row seat and think he was a crazed fan of the flamboyant 'Your Song' singer.
He told website gibson.com: "He gave me a front row seat, which is a weird place to be. People were pointing at me, probably thinking, 'Hey, there's that singer. He must be a psychotic Elton fan'.
"They probably thought I followed him all across the world, sitting in the front row."
Elton John slams 'idiot' record company chiefs

Sir Elton John is "sickened" by "idiot" record company chiefs.
The outspoken 'Rocket Man' singer launched an attack over the treatment of artists who fail to live up to the success expected of them by corporate backers, insisting executives should care for their acts more.
He said: "I think most heads of record companies are idiots. About five per cent are any good. They're only in it for themselves.
"They don't care about artists. They're all about the next fix, the next single. It's like they're having a hit of cocaine every 15 seconds.
"And if someone falls by the wayside, they're by the wayside. They're not allowed one blip.
"In America, most of them are idiots. They're sickening actually. They sicken me. They're thick as s**t."
The 63-year-old singer also admitted he no longer likes being famous but understands he has to be available to promote his work, something which he takes tight control of.
He added in an interview with Shortlist magazine: "Do I enjoy success now? Fame is completely different. It's not as innocent.
"I don't want to be famous any more, I just want to make my music and have a nice life. But you have to play the game and promote your records, your movies, your musicals. But if I was young, I'd hate it."
Elton John Does Not Expect Invite to Royal Wedding

NEW YORK (CBS) VIP guests for Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding received "save-the-date" faxes this week, but Elton John wasn't one of them.
"I'm not invited to the wedding," John said. "I would not expect to be invited to the wedding."
William and Middleton are set to wed on April 29 at Westminster Abbey in London.
"I think because of my relationship with Princess Diana, people automatically think I'm going to be invited," John told Reuters in an interview Monday.
John sang a rewritten version of his song "Candle in the Wind" at Diana's funeral in 1997 after her tragic death in a car accident.
Despite his close relationship with Diana, John claims not to know her sons very well - having met them very few times.
"They're tremendous boys, but I don't know them (so) it would be presumptuous of me to even talk about them," he said. "They are great boys, their mum would be very proud of them."
John still has warm wishes for the couple: "I just wish them the happiest of lives together. They seem very happy. He's a really terrific man, William, and he's going to be a great king."
