Elton John Documentary, Directed By Cameron Crowe, Will Open Tribeca Film Festival

Tribeca Film Festival Elton John and Leon Russell in “The Union.”
If Cameron Crowe could make a memorable scene with just a couple of verses of Elton John – as he did when the “Almost Famous” cast sang “Tiny Dancer” in the back of that tour bus – imagine what he could do with an entire movie about him? Audiences at the Tribeca Film Festival will be among the first to find out: the festival’s organizers said on Wednesday that their 2011 program will open on the night of April 20 with a free outdoor screening of “The Union,” Mr. Crowe’s documentary about Mr. John, followed by a performance from that best-selling pop performer.
“The Union” chronicles the making of that 2010 album of the same title, on which Mr. John collaborated with the singer-songwriter Leon Russell, and which also featured contributions from T-Bone Burnett, Bernie Taupin, Neil Young and Brian Wilson, among others. Press representatives for the Tribeca Film Festival said in a news release that the premiere event for the documentary will be held at the North Cove at the World Financial Plaza in Lower Manhattan. The full festival is scheduled to run from April 20 through May 1.

Elton John will be the star of Tribeca Film Festival's opening night with the screening of Cameron Crowe's documentary "The Union" that tracks the collaboration between the singer and Leon Russell. The free, outdoor showing, set for April 20, will be followed by a live performance by John.
The Crowe doc chronicles the entire writing and recording process of John's collaboration with his early-career idol, Russell, with whom he hadn't spoken in 38 years. Also appearing in the documentary are music producer T Bone Burnett, John's lyricist Bernie Taupin, Neil Young, Brian Wilson, R&B organist Booker T. Jones, steel guitarist Robert Randolph and a 10-piece gospel choir.
"As a longtime fan of both artists, it was a pleasure to spend a year filming their collaboration," said Crowe. "We can't wait to show it to one of the greatest audiences in the world, the Tribeca Film Festival."
The 10th annual festival will run April 20 through May 1. The rest of the event's film slate will be announced on March 7 and March 14.

Elton John Will Attend Royal WeddingElton John says that he will indeed attend the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. In an interview with CTV, the singer initially claimed that he was not invited to the event, but admitted that he would be going when pressed by the interviewer. According to John, he was trying to be discreet about the matter. [Reuters]

The Candle in the Wind singer and his partner David Furnish will rub shoulders with the good and the great in Westminster Abbey on April 29.
Speaking to Canadian chat show host Marilyn Denis, John initially denied that he'd received an invite. "As far as I know, I don't have an invitation." But when pressed further, he spilled the beans. "Yeah, we do have an invitation. I've been trying to be discreet."
(More on TIME.com: Not invited? Then get your royal wedding fix on the official royal wedding website)
In recent weeks the 63-year old singer—who was one of Princess Diana's closest friends—has doubted that he'd make the cut. "I think because of my relationship with Princess Diana, people automatically think I'm going to be invited," John told Reuters, adding that he doesn't actually know Prince William very well. "I'm not invited to the wedding. I would not expect to be invited to the wedding."
Now that he has an official invite, though, he's comfortable sharing his thoughts on the young couple. On the show he seemed to disapprove of William's decision to give Kate his mother's sapphire engagement ring. "It is none of my business," he said when asked, "but I thought it was a little odd." He also believes that William has "one of the hardest jobs in the world"—and that he's ready for an even bigger one.  "I hope [William] becomes King at an early age," John said. "I think we need young people like him to lead. I think he will be a tremendous king – not that Charles won't, but I think William will be…tremendous." (via People)

Sir Elton John, in Toronto for the premiere of his musical Billy Elliot, has confirmed he snagged an invite to the royal wedding and he’s going.
John was close friends with Prince William’s mother, Diana, the Princess of Wales. His song about Marilyn Monroe, Candle in the Wind, was rewritten and retitled Candle in the Wind 1997 after Diana’s death. John sang the revised song at Diana’s funeral and it was released as a single.
John disclosed his royal plans for Prince William and Kate Middleton’s April 29 wedding in an interview Tuesday morning on The Marilyn Show on CTV.
He and his Toronto-born partner, David Furnish, will attend the Canadian premiere Tuesday night of Billy Elliot, the musical about a working class boy who fights the odds for a career in the arts.
Growing up in the “conservative ’50s” in Britain, John told host Marilyn Denis he faced strong opposition from his father when he wanted to be a rock and roll musician.
“My father didn’t approve at all. He wanted me to get a stable job,” said the multi-millionaire singer and songwriter.
John and Furnish’s visit to Toronto might include a trip to Scarborough to see Furnish’s family.
In an interview with Maclean’s magazine, Furnish said he persuaded John that they should have a son because of his own good memories of childhood, unlike the singer’s.
Asked if the time were right for a trip home with John, Furnish said, “Yes, I think it’s time. Elton hasn’t been yet and he needs to see where I grew up because I’ve been where he’s grown up.”

The 19th annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party hosted by Sir Elton John and David Furnish raised nearly $4 million for the fight against HIV/AIDS.  The gala, which took place on Sunday, February 27, at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles, was co-sponsored by Chopard and Jo & Raffy Manoukian.  Attendees included Sir Ben Kingsley, Heidi Klum & Seal, Jamie Foxx, Steven Tyler, Zac Levi, Sharon Stone, Matthew Morrison, Paul Rudd, Paz Vega, Claire Danes & Hugh Dancy, Ashley Tisdale, Baz Luhrmann, Emma Stone, Smokey Robinson, Quincy Jones, Chace Crawford, Hayden Panettierre, Kelly & Sharon Osbourne, Dave Annable, Cee Lo Green, Chris Colfer, Eric Stonestreet, Jane Lynch, Kim Kardashian, Nicole Richie & Joel Madden, John Waters, Miranda Cosgrove, Serena Williams, Joel McHale, Rashida Jones, Vanessa Hudgens, Taye Diggs, Rufus Wainwright, Natasha Henstridge and Tori Spelling, among many others.
Guests arrived at the Academy Awards Viewing Party for cocktails followed by a gala dinner and viewing of the 83rd Academy Awards® telecast.  This year Chef Ludo Lefebvre, owner of the wildly popular touring restaurant LudoBites, supported by Los Angeles-based Crumble Catering, prepared an innovative menu with his classic French styling.  The menu included seared beef tenderloin with charcoal oil, a crispy bacon and goat cheese soup, and an apple tart garnished with orange creme fraiche and caramel syrup.
The dinner was followed by a lively auction conducted by Jamie Nivens of Sotheby's.  Auction items included a five-night stay in Sir Elton John and David Furnish's private Venice residence, which sold for $150,000; and a Taylor Swift concert package including tickets and a meet-and-greet with the Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter, which sold for $50,0000; in-home cooking class with Chef Ludo Lefebvre, which sold for $20,000. Following the auction, Florence + The Machine took the stage to perform several songs including her hit "The Dog Days are Over".  Elton John joined Florence Welch onstage to perform "Tiny Dancer" and "You Got the Love".
2011 marks the 30th year since HIV/AIDS was first observed by physicians in American patients, and while tremendous strides have been made in our understanding of this terrible disease, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done.  In 1993 Sir Elton John pledged to the Hollywood community that he would hold this event every year until a cure for HIV/AIDS had been found. Nearly 20 years later, the Hollywood community is still standing with Sir Elton John, showing their support for the Foundation and this worthy cause.

The iconic singer holds the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party annually, to raise money for his Elton John AIDS Foundation. This year it took place at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood, and Elton and his partner David Furnish were both upset about leaving their new son Zachary at home.
“I wish we could but we can't, he might be coming down to visit us and say goodnight," Elton laughed.
The event is one of the glitziest in the showbiz calendar, and this year was no exception. Elton sang with Florence Welch from band Florence and the Machine, who looked stunning in a long blush dress which was overlaid with black netting.
“She's amazing, a great girl, so full of life. I love her, she's such a great singer and I'm mesmerised by her,” Elton said of Florence.
Other guests included Kelly Osborne and her mother Sharon, Matthew Morrison and his Glee co-stars Dianna Agron and Chris Colfer, as well as Claire Danes and Baz Luhrmann.
Hayden Panettiere and Chace Crawford also attended the bash, which featured a mirrored floor and yellow love seats.
Kim Kardashian looked stunning in a figure-hugging black dress, while Nicole Richie opted for a white, long-sleeved gown with a cutaway on her stomach.
British glamour model Katie Price – also known as Jordan – put in an appearance, but shunned the usual formal gown. Instead, she chose a short, black dress with a puffy skirt and plunging neckline.
Elton discussed his reasons for raising awareness of AIDS, explaining he thinks it’s particularly vital in America. The 63-year-old worries education about the topic is overlooked in the US, and wants to change that.
“We still find the stigma of AIDS exists, the shame, the marginalisation of people that have AIDS," he said. "It's really disturbing. It's very hard to teach sex education to young people in this country because it's a very conservative country."

Sir Elton will also perform with Leon Russell as the show's musical guest, marking his first time back on the 'SNL' stage since 1982.

Sir Elton John will play double duty on April 2 when he hosts Saturday Night Live and appears as the show's musical guest with Leon Russell. It will be his first time back on the SNL stage since 1982, when he performed the songs "Empty Garden" and "Ball And Chain."
The booking was revealed at John's annual Oscar viewing party, held Sunday night at the Pacific Design Center. The swank bash included a live auction to benefit the Elton John Aids Foundation. Among the items offered was VIP access for two to SNL's April 2 show and cast after-party, courtesy of Lorne Michaels. The winning bid came in at $75,000.
Academy Awards aside, John reminded the crowd of 1,000 that he and partner David Furnish were also celebrating a movie feat that night: Gnomeo & Juliet nabbing the top spot at the weekend box office in its third week out. Said John, who wrote the music for the film, which Furnish produced: "I never thought I'd be coming to our Oscar party having a No. 1 movie, but it's fantastic."

It was a subdued evening for Katie compared to some of the outlandish outfits we've come to expect from one of Britain's most colorful exports. New dads Sir Elton John and David Furnish had no chance to slip off early from their glitzy Oscar-viewing party to be with their son Zachary.

"I wish we could but we can't, he might be coming down to visit us and say goodnight," Elton said at his celeb-packed fundraiser.

Kelly and Sharon Osbourne, Katie Price, Glee's Matthew Morrison and Chris Colfer, director Baz Luhrmann and actress Clare Danes featured on the swanky guest list.

Speaking before the evening got into full swing, Elton revealed how pleased he was to be performing with Florence Welch from Florence And The Machine.

"She's amazing, a great girl, so full of life. I love her, she's such a great singer and I'm mesmerised by her," he said.

Money from ticket sales and a special auction helped raise money for the Elton John Aids Foundation.

Elton told American reporters about how he was shocked by the lack of HIV awareness in the States.

"We still find the stigma of Aids exists, the shame, the marginalisation of people that have Aids," he said.

"It's really disturbing. It's very hard to teach sex education to young people in this country because it's a very conservative country."

Elton explained: "We do it in Africa to the young ones so they learn about sex and condoms and infection rates go down. Here you can't get to them and the infection rates go up, you're banging your head against a wall. Until something radically changes and you can actually get to young people in America and educate them on a sexual level then nothing is going to change and that's horrific."

Elton John Will Host and Perform on 'SNL'

http://www.hollywood.com/news/Elton_John_Will_Host_and_Perform_on_SNL/7768073

Elton JohnSaturday Night's alright for fighting, but now it's alright for a totally different reason. It turns out, on April 2 Sir Elton John will be hosting Saturday Night Live AND serving as the show's musical guest. I never thought I'd see the day when Elton John would share a very specific category with Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears. That's quite a sundry bunch, ain't it?

It seems that John won't be whipping out that Saturday Night anthem (aww, shucks) because he'll be taking the stage with his most recent partner in music, Leon Russell to promote their joint project, The Union. This will be John's second stint on the sketch show's stage since 1982. I'm not really sure what to expect from this hosting selection because it could be awful, but it's also got potential to be kind of amazing. Remember back when John McCain hosted and he turned out to be hilarious? Yeah, it's kind of lack that. Only McCain doesn't have a background of performing insane musical numbers with Muppets and enough rhinestones and glitter to make Lady Gaga's balloon of a head spin. I'd say this one's worth marking down in your calendar just to see what's in store.

Tori Spelling Hoping for a Playdate with Elton John's Son

Tori Spelling Hoping for a Playdate with Elton John's Son | David Furnish, Dean McDermott, Elton John, Tori Spelling

Elton John's newborn son Zachary could soon have two new friends – Dean McDermott and Tori Spelling's kids, Liam and Stella.

"Is it wrong 2 hope 4 a playdate?" Spelling, 37, tweeted Sunday night after meeting John, 63, and his partner, David Furnish, at the British music legend's Oscars after-party, held annually to raise money for his AIDS foundation.

McDermott, 44, tweeted out a photo of himself and Spelling with John and Furnish and called it a "once in a lifetime moment."

He added: "OMG. Just met Sir Elton John. Such a nice guy. He leaned on my shoulder to talk to T. That's one for the history books."

Zachary, who was born on Christmas Day, may have a hard time keeping up with his playmates. After all, Liam turns 4 on March 13, while Stella will be 3 in June.

Proceeds from ticket sales to the after-party and a special auction help raise money for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
