From his start with the band Bluesology in 1961, multi-award winner Elton John (born Reginald Kenneth Dwight) has time and time again proven himself to be one of the most iconic singer-songwriters of our day. Rising to international fame by the 1970's with the hit "Your Song," Elton has since released an overwhelming number of studio albums, many of which have climbed their way to the top of the charts. In the '90s, he expanded his career to encompass solo studio albums, collaborations, Broadway compositions (Billy ElliotAida), movie scoring (The Lion King), and charity foundations (Elton John AIDS Foundation). His contributions to music and charity did not go unnoticed; in 1994, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and in 1998, Queen Elizabeth II knighted him as Sir Elton Hercules John.
John added to his legacy last year with The Union, which he made with Leon Russell. Russell, who was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March, has built a strong career as a session musician, solo songwriter and collaborator. He has worked with a long list of top artists, covering everything from pure rock to blues and gospel. His resume of albums date as as far back as the late '60s.

ELTON John's legendary songs will create a fabulous start to 2012 at the North Ipswich Reserve this Saturday night.
In a visual and vibrant production, entertainer Greg Andrew will present his powerful show, I'm Still Standing, to the thousands of partygoers expected to attend.
Mr Andrew's likeness to Elton John leaves audiences believing he could be the man himself.
This show takes its audience on a musical journey showcasing Elton's major hits, including iconic songs from the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Album.
From classic ballads through to rock songs, this show is designed to get the audience rocking and partying along.
New Year's Eve celebrations in Ipswich will move to the North Ipswich Reserve this year to allow for the extra crowds expected at the event to welcome in 2012.
Mayor Paul Pisasale said the celebrations presented by Ipswich Central, Ipswich City Council and media partners Channel Nine, River 94.9 FM and the Queensland Times had outgrown the previous venue at Timothy Molony Park.
"These free celebrations at North Ipswich Reserve will have more than enough space to cater for up to 12,000 people expected to attend," he said.
Fireworks at 8pm and again at midnight will thrill families at the celebrations.
Cr Pisasale said Ipswich had come a long way through the recovery process since the disaster of the January floods.
"We want to kiss this year goodbye with a bang and hope for better times in 2012," he said.
Food stalls will feed the crowd at the event, which runs from 6pm until midnight.
