Bringing Elton John’s Album Covers to Life - No Sound

Elton John Pat Boone was going to sue him over Crocodile Rock.

    Did You Know?

Elton John once joked that he thought Pat Boone was going to sue him over Crocodile Rock.

In an interview given to People Magazine in April 2023, American singer Pat Boone shared a lighthearted story involving Elton John and the 1972 hit Crocodile Rock. Boone recalled approaching Elton to mention his own 1962 hit, Speedy Gonzales, pointing out the familiar “la la la la” vocal line.

Boone told Elton, half-jokingly, that he had “a little bone to pick,” since that vocal phrase appeared in Crocodile Rock. Elton laughed and replied that he had actually worried Boone might sue him for it. Boone immediately dismissed the idea, saying he felt honored and pleased that something he had recorded was remembered and echoed in such a popular song.

The story perfectly fits how Elton John has always described Crocodile Rock: a joyful tribute to the spirit of 1950s and 1960s rock ’n’ roll that shaped his musical youth. The famous “la la la” was never meant as imitation, but as a nostalgic nod to an era that influenced him deeply.

Pat Boone’s reaction shows how this moment was received not as controversy, but as appreciation—one artist recognizing his place in the musical chain that helped inspire the next generation.
