Elton John and David Furnish first gay couple to be nominated for celeb dad of the year
http://www.heatworld.com/Celeb-News/2011/05/Elton-John-and-David-Furnish-first-gay-couple-to-be-nominated-for-celeb-dad-of-the-year/Bless. Elton John and his hubby David Furnish who adopted their son Zachary at Christmas this year (a babies a bit nicer than a pair of socks eh?) have been nominated for Premier Inn’s Celebrity Dad of the Year award, this is nice because 1. Well, it’s just nice and 2. They’re like totes the first ever gay couple to be nominated. Woo. We’re not 100% sure what Premier Inn has to do with Celebrity Dad’s but it’s very good all the same.
Other people to be nominated include Peter Andre (who won in 2010), Gavin Henson (yes, he’s still alive) and David Beckham, in fairness he is a really good celebrity Dad – think of all of those pics of him doting over his super cool kids - but we don’t like to think of him that way because it ruins our fantasies of getting off with him when we remember how happy him and VB are.
Because we had five minute we thought of some reasons why we wish that Elton John had adopted us instead of Zachary:
- He has a lot of money
- He is friends with Lady Gaga
- He has a lot of money
We’re hoping by writing this we’ll get invited and the fit Dad’s might have friends? YEAH?
Elton John nominated for Dad of the Year
Sir Elton John and David Furnish have made the shortlist for Celebrity Dad of the Year.
The musician and his partner became parents to son Zachary on Christmas Day last December through a surrogate mother and they become the first gay couple to be nominated for the British award. The couple are said to be "thrilled" at the news of their nomination.
Other nominees on the list include soccer players Wayne Rooney and David Beckham, Take That star singer Gary Barlow and TV presenter Jonathan Ross.
Last year's winner, Peter Andre - who has five-year-old Junior and three-year-old Princess Tiaamii with ex-wife Katie Price - is also nominated this year.
Upon being crowned last year, Pete said: "This means a huge amount to me as being a dad is my most important role.
According to the organisers of The Premier Inn Celebrity Dad of the Year 2011 award, it aims to: "Reward the celebrity dad who has impressed the nation by balancing a hectic public life with the demands of parenting."
Elton, 63, has previously talked of how he wants Zachary, now five months, to be grounded despite his parents' fame and riches.
The 'Rocket Man' singer said: "I so value my own childhood now, and we want to give Zachary - as much as we possibly can - the same thing. A solid old-fashioned childhood, if you like.
"I know it'll be hard with my life, but we want him to have that same normality and for things in life to have real value. So we don't intend to spoil him - we're going to try to give him a fun, carefree time of innocence, freedom, love and stability."
