Elton John "very excited" at Singapore concert

Singapore: After 40 years of playing live and more than 3000 public concerts as of 8 October, Elton John still gets a thrill at the thought of playing for his fans.
The "Rocket Man" who landed in Singapore on Tuesday said on arrival,"I am very excited to be here and really looking forward to the concert with my Singapore fans on Sunday night".
Extra tickets for Elton John and Band were immediately released for the show presented by Marina Bay Sands.
The S$248 and S$188 tickets for side and rear view seats were released since earlier concert tickets have sold out.
"The release of these seats also enables us to help meet the huge demand for tickets" said Colleen Ironside of tour and event promotion company Live Limited.
"The additional seats are some of the best seats in the house which provide a fabulous view of the stage" she added.
Joining Elton John on his "Greatest Hits Tour" will be his long-time band; Davey Johnstone, Nigel Olsson, Bob Birch, Kim Bullard and John Mahon.
The band will also feature Rose Stone of Sly And The Family Stone fame, Lisa Stone, Tata Vega and Jean Witherspoon on backing vocals.
Opening the one-night-only concert and making their first appearance in Singapore, will be the Croatian duo, Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser of 2CELLOS.
After Singapore, Elton John's "Greatest Hits Tour" will play in Malaysia on Tuesday.
The Jakarta concert has however been postponed to 17 November 2012.
Sir Elton John who was knighted in 1998 for "services to music and charitable services" has to date sold more than 250 million records and has more than 50 Top 40 hits to his name.
The student of London's famed Royal Academy of Music, formed his first band, Bluesology, in 1961 and adopted the name Elton John from two members of his band.
He joined forces with Bernie Taupin in 1967 and created a string a memorable albums and hits including Your Song, Rocket Man, Crocodile Rock, Daniel, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and Candle In The Wind, which was re-written in 1997 at the death of his close friend, Diana, Princess of Wales.
The prolific song-writer, composer and singer also penned the music for Disney hit The Lion King and stage musicals Aida and Billy Elliot.
His latest work is a studio album, The Union, created in collaboration with Leon Russell and Bernie Taupin.

Based on the 1994 Disney animated film, the stage musical features Elton John and Tim Rice's music from the film along with three new songs by John and Rice; additional musical material by Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, Taymor and Hans Zimmer; and music from "Rhythm of the Pride Lands," an album inspired by the original music in the film, written by Lebo M, Mark Mancina and Hans Zimmer. The Lion King won six 1998 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
The current Broadway cast features Gareth Saxe as Scar, Alton Fitzgerald White as Mufasa, Tshidi Manye as Rafiki, Jeff Binder as Zazu, Ben Jeffrey as Pumbaa, Fred Berman as Timon, Adam Jacobs as Simba, Chaunteé Schuler as Nala, James Brown-Orleans as Banzai, Bonita J. Hamilton as Shenzi, and Enrique Segura as Ed. The role of Young Simba is alternated between Judah Bellamy and Aubrey Omari Joseph, while the role of Young Nala is alternated between Khail Toi Bryant and Imani Dia Smith. At the Sunday performance, the role of Scar was performed by Thom Christopher Warren, while Simba was played by Joel Karie.
