First to arrive at the 19^th Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party was the host himself, Sir Elton John. Tanned and relaxed from a recent vacation to Hawaii with baby Zachary and husband David Furnish, John was all smiles as he talked about the family. As for rumors of Lady Gaga being named godmother, that's still in debate. "We haven't actually decided who's going to be godmother or godfather yet," John told reporters. As for expanding the family, that's something he and Furnish haven't considered yet either, "We're just getting used to this one," he laughed.

After 19 years of throwing his Oscar viewing party, John was pretty clear on what the night ahead held, including good food and entertainment. "After the first half hour, the show plummets to the depths of the earth," he said. "Then it gets interesting again towards the end. In the middle of the broadcast, people get up and socialize." Getting the audience to their feet after the show was Florence And The Machine. "She's a real, original British talent," said John.

Florence Welch started her moves early in the evening, making an appearance on the red carpet at Elton John's party before jetting off to the Kodak Theatre for an Oscar performance. "There are two of me," she joked to reporters. When asked about her nerves, Welch answered candidly. "I'm a bit nervous, so right before I go in, I'll probably be shaking." She was all smiles later, however, when taking the stage at West Hollywood's Pacific Design Center. Joining her midway through her performance was Sir Elton John, drawing eager fans away from the Godiva chocolate counter when strains of "Tiny Dancer" began.

Sir Elton John has revealed that he wished to his 2 month old son at his Oscars party yesterday.

When asked if he wanted to leave early, John commented: “I wish we could but we can’t. He might be coming down to visit us and say goodnight.”
During the ceremony 63-year-old band with Florence and the machine Florence Welch sang, and a “amazing“ as the girl explained.
He said of Welch: “She’s amazing, a great girl, so full of life. I love her, she’s such a great singer and I’m mesmerised by her.”

Captain Fantastic is back. It was announced this morning that Sir Elton John will play the Wells Fargo Theatre on Tues, April 12 in a concert benefiting the Matthew Shepard Foundation.
John, one of pop music’s best-selling solo artists, last played the considerably larger Pepsi Center on a co-headline bill with Billy Joel in February 2010. Indeed, seeing John in any venue shy of stadium or arena capacity (the Wells Fargo Theatre tops out at 5,000) is a rare occurrence.
The show will benefit the Matthew Shepard Foundation, the charity founded by Shepard’s parents following his 1998 bludgeoning in Wyoming. According to the press release, the foundation’s goal is to “replace hate with understanding, compassion & acceptance.”
A gay rights advocate, John seems like a logical choice for the show. John previously played similar benefits in Laramie in 1999 and 2009.
“Sir Elton has stood up for equality and dignity for all people, for more than a decade, through his tremendous generosity to the Foundation,” writes Judy Shepard in the press release. “His benefit concerts in Laramie in 1999 and 2009 sustained our educational work, bringing hope and inspiration to the community. We are deeply grateful for his continuing support and for the example he sets for all of us.”
