A song surfaced on YouTube which was written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin for Frank Sinatra back in 1978.
The discovery made by the Sinatra family made back in 2002 concerns the Reprise session of July 17, 1978. As usually done at each recording session, Musician Union’s session sheets were filled out, noting the songs recorded, the master numbers attached to them, the time and location of the session as it took place, and the individual names of each instrumentalist, primarily as a basis for paying the musicians for their work.

According to the session sheet for July 17, 1978, Sinatra and orchestra gathered at TBS Studios in Burbank, California, from 7.30 to 12 pm. The orchestra was conducted by Vincent Falcone jr. It included a large string and brass section (40 musicians incl. one harp, all listed by name) plus Tom Hensley and Bill Miller on piano, Tim May, Al Viola and Marty Walsh on guitar, Milton Kestenbaum, Milton Nadel and Gene Cherico on bass, Ronnie Tutt and Irving Cottler on drums, and Alan Ester and Larry Bunker on percussion. This team, according to the sheet, recorded three songs with vocals by Sinatra „That’s What God Really Looks Like“ (Reprise master #WCA 8129), „Remember“ (#WCA 8130) and „You And Me“ (#WCA 8131). No take numbers for the masters are indicated.

None of the three recordings were ever released, while discographers who searched the Warner/Reprise and Union files for Sinatra recordings came up with some of the session data. Reportedly, when the 1995 Reprise 20-CD „suitcase“ was about to be compiled, the recordings were searched for at Reprise/Warner but couldn’t be located. Participating musicians were approached but while they all vividly remembered the session, no one of them seemed to have an idea about where the recordings were.

In mid 2002, as Nancy Sinatra has said, the tapes have been re-discovered. This is important news to Sinatra world, because while two of the songs from July 1978, „You and Me“ and „What God Really Looks Like“ were re-done by Sinatra aboit a year later and then issued on his Reprise 3-LP album „Trilogy“, the third song, „Remember“, never surfaced on any record.

It’s a (by then) contemporary song especially written for Frank Sinatra by Elton John and Bernie Taupin. Sinatra sang in concert frequently between May 1978 and April 1979, to an arrangement he credited to Don Costa. Some of you older fans might have witnessed it in concert, he also took it to Europe during his 1978 appearances in London, England. It is a fine song, and Sinatra’s rendition as heard in concert was very grand.

Don Costa’s arrangement as performed in concert was cleverly picking up certain „Elton John sound elements“, let’s see if the studio recording also carries these.

IT WAS a day strictly for the fellas when Elton John and David Furnish treated seven-month-old son Zachary to a boat ride yesterday.
No fewer than four dads and five aides helped Zac and two playmates into lifejackets for the short trip by boat to a trendy beach club in St Tropez, south of France.
Would mums have made quite such a fuss?

AIDS Foundation petition has been sent to governor of Florida
By John F. Higgins/eltonjohn.com
Sir Elton John and David Furnish, the Founder and Chairman of the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF), today sent a petition to the governor of Florida, Rick Scott, signed by 4,280 people, calling on him to rescind his administration's proposal that would strip medication from thousands of low-income Floridians living with HIV/AIDS.
"EJAF remains deeply concerned about this crucial HIV/AIDS public policy decision being made in the State of Florida," Furnish said. "To all of our donors, friends, and constituents, we pledge to continue working tirelessly for a responsible and compassionate resolution to this issue."
The Elton John AIDS Foundation was established in the United States in 1992 (EJAF-US) and in the United Kingdom in 1993 (EJAF-UK) by Sir Elton John. Together, both entities have raised more than $225 million for worthy programs in 55 countries around the globe since inception. Today, EJAF is one of the world's leading non-profit HIV/AIDS organizations supporting innovative HIV prevention programs, efforts to eliminate stigma and discrimination associated with HIV/AIDS, and direct care and support services for people living with HIV/AIDS. EJAF-US's current grant-making priorities target HIV prevention programs throughout the Americas and the Caribbean; HIV prevention and care services for highly marginalized and vulnerable populations; and HIV/AIDS prevention education and the promotion of sexual health for adolescents. Elton ripped back then! Burn Down the Mission simply rocks!! I'll play this for folks that say they like EJ but have never actually heard him all out.

  • I think it was Phil Ramone rather than Spector. - soundnut 09:26:36 08/03/11 (0)
Ramone was the co-owner and "R" of "A&R Studios", where that was recorded for broadcast by WABC. He was also Billy Joel's producer.

That's one of my favorite live rock albums, and the sound quality is very good. The bass slam is tremendous on my old original UNI copy.

    Cheers,
    Bobbo :-)

I found that at a thrift store a while back but haven’t given it a spin yet, I guess tonight is the night. Thanks for the reminder.

That is a good one! I especially like the early Elton John releases. I was lucky to find "Elton John 11-17-70" and "Tumbleweed Connection" on reel-to-reel tape at yard sale a couple years ago.

Oh yah that is a great one. I need to see if I can find my copy.

Sir Elton John and David Furnish proudly flaunted their baby boy on vacation with Neil Patrick Harris at an exclusive resort in the south of France.

Elton and his partner David welcomed son Zachary Jackson Leven, seven months, on Christmas Day of last year to a surrogate mother in Los Angeles. Since their new arrival, doting dads Elton and David have lavished Zachary with affection and luxurious holidays.
Seen at Club 55, a premiere resort in St. Tropez, today, Elton, David and Zachary went boating with Neil and his family. Neil has two children of his own with partner David Burtka, twins Harper Grace and Gideon Scott, who were welcomed into the world in October of last year. The four fathers were seen thoroughly enjoying their family recreational activities.
Despite the exclusivity of their recent respite, David and Elton are determined to provide their son with a well-grounded childhood. Elton treasures his own youth and wants to provide Zachary with the same warm experiences.
“I so value my own childhood now, and we want to give Zachary - as much as we possibly can - the same thing. A solid old-fashioned childhood, if you like,” Elton said recently.
Neil finds inspiration in Elton’s parenting approach. He appreciates all that he is learning from his dear friend Elton.
“[Elton and David are] super great parents,” ’Neil told Access Hollywood. “They’re so fiercely involved in their son’s life and it’s really kind of great to watch them interact with him.”

Papas and papas! Elton John and David Furnish joined by Neil Patrick Harris and his twins for St Tropez playdate

By Daily Mail Reporter

Last updated at 5:55 PM on 4th August 2011

With Kate Moss frequenting the beach club just a few days before, Club 55 in St Tropez is certainly not your average place for a baby playdate.
And it was certainly the scene of a papas and papas days of fun as Sir Elton John and David Furnish and Neil Patrick Harris and David Burthka took their respective broods to the beach club earlier today.
As the singer and his partner fawned over their son Zachary the How I Met Your Mother actor and partner were seen doting on their twins Gideon Scott and Harper Grace.

And given the three children are all under one- year- old they were probably enjoying one of the world’s most exclusive playdates.

But while the children were decked out in the cutest of clothing with seventh month old Zachary decked out in a striped romper suit with matching hat while Gideon and Harper, both nine months, were also wearing head protection.

And as the group made their way by tender to the Pampelonne beach club it was safety first for the little tots with all three being kitted out with bright orange life jackets.
It appears the playdate had been pre-planned and How I Met Your Mother star Neil told the New York

Post gossip page six that they were always going to meet up with the Rocket Man singer and his family.

Speaking about his twins, who were born in October Neil said:’“I love when they’re smiling. That sounds very glib, but for a little while they don’t.’

‘You’re just kind of holding and hoping nothing goes wrong and now they’re starting to smile.

‘Once they start laughing, I’m going to be head over heels for those two.

‘Well, I already am, but then I’ll think they’re laughing at my comedy so I will never leave the house.’

The foursome first met up with all their children in February this year and Neil has often commented on Elton and David’s parenting skills.

He told Access Hollywood: ‘They’re super great parents. They’re so fiercely involved in their son’s life and it’s really kind of great to watch them interact with him.’
And given the location of Zachary's latest playdates he is certainly going to grow up being used to the high life.

Zachary looked incredibly cute in his white and blue striped one-piece with a matching hat as he enjoyed the warm weather.
Meanwhile, Elton and David stayed cool by wearing short and sunglasses as they beamed from ear to ear while introducing Zachary to St Tropez.

The little boy, who was born to a surrogate mother on Christmas Day last year, will grow up to call Sir Elton ‘Daddy’ and David ‘Papa’.

But the couple do not yet know who the child’s biological father is.
David said: ‘Neither of us care. He’s our child. The important thing is that he’s healthy and happy and loved.
The couple became parents through a surrogate, who gave birth to Zachary in a California hospital on Christmas Day last year.
During the conception process, the mixing of their semen specimens was allowed - a process which is currently banned in the UK - before being used to fertilise a previously chosen egg.
In January, filmmaker David, 48, told OK! magazine: 'We both contributed. For the time being we don't have a clue.
'We look at him every day and at the moment he has Elton's nose and my hands.'
Elton has previously pledged to make Zachary a grounded child despite his parents' fame and riches.
The Rocket Man singer said: 'I so value my own childhood now, and we want to give Zachary - as much as we possibly can - the same thing. A solid old-fashioned childhood, if you like.'
But Zachary's christening is going to be anything but normal if reports are to be believed, as his godmother Lady Gaga has apparently been lined up to perform a set at the event, to be held at the couple's Windsor mansion.
A source said last month: 'Lady Gaga jumped at the chance to perform.
'She is absolutely chuffed that she has been picked to be godmother, so she feels she owes it to Elton.'
Speaking about appointing Gaga in the special role of godmother, Elton told Barbara Walters: 'When you get to the real person under there, there's a real simple person under there who loves her parents.'
Privileged tots: Despite both being under one-year-old Zachary and Gideon Scott were carried by their parents into the exclusive Club 55 beach club
