The man behind the words of Elton's songs celebrates
By the Editor/eltonjohn.com
Lyricist Bernie Taupin, co-writer of over 350 Elton John songs as well as dozens more with other artists, celebrates his birthday today. All of us at eltonjohn.com send Bernie our best wishes for a wonderful day and our hopes that the weeks and months ahead continue the fantastic momentum of the past year.
Still riding high on the much-deserved success of last year's album, The Union, Bernie has also recently written two new lyrics (Hello Hello and Love Builds A Garden) for the number one film, Gnomeo & Juliet, and continues to share his vast wealth of American roots music knowledge on his weekly "American Roots Radio" show (part of The Loft program on Sirius and XM).
Last month, Bernie joined in the launch of the 10th annual TriBeCa Film Festival in New York City by helping to introduce the Cameron Crowe documentary on the making of The Union. Viewers of the film that evening were treated to a very funny scene in which Elton and Bernie recalled their first visit to Brian Wilson's Los Angeles home in the early 70s. As Cameron noted in part one of our video interview with him about the movie, Bernie chose to not be in the way of the cameras often...so we are certainly lucky to have had that spontaneous moment between two old friends captured on film!
You can find out more about what the birthday boy is up to, peruse his complete lyric collection, and read his singular blog entries by visiting his website at berniejtaupin.com.
Have a very happy birthday, Bernie. And thank you for giving us so many great lyrics for the past 44 years!
