Rock Nation School Tribute Performs in LA

Rock Nation School Tribute Performs in LA

http://losangeles.broadwayworld.com/article/Rock_Nation_School_Tribute_Performs_in_LA_20010101

There was standing room only when the Rock Nation School Tribute to Elton John, featuring three members of the Elton John Band and student musicians, drew hundreds of fans to the famed Canyon Club near Los Angeles on Sunday, September 26.

Guitarist Davey Johnstone, drummer Nigel Olsson and percussionist John Mahon sat in on several Elton John songs being performed by young students in the two-hour show, including "Rocket Man" and "Take Me to the Pilot," as well as three original songs written by 12-year-old Ben Babylon. The son of Elton John's late keyboardist and arranger, Guy Babylon, is a student at Rock Nation, and has composed several songs, two of which were inspired by his father. Although billed as a tribute to Elton John, the concert also paid homage to elder Babylon, who died of a heart attack just over one year ago.

Chasen Hampton, Tony Avalon

Babylon and Mahon opened the show with "No Goodbyes on the Road," Babylon's song about people being in such a hurry that there often is not time to say goodbye. That was followed by the more upbeat "Write Your Own Song," on which Olsson performed with Babylon and Mahon. Johnstone then joined the group on "Goodbye Superman," Babylon's stirring tribute to his late father, made all the more powerful by Johnstone's razor-sharp guitar riffs.

"It means a lot to me, to be here for Guy," Johnstone said. "He was my closest bud in a musical sense, and in a sports sense. Whenever we were touring, we would discuss basketball and soccer as much as music. I miss him dearly.

"Guy was an influence on all of us musically and as a friend," said Mahon. "It is a fitting tribute to him, for us to actually play on stage with his son."

"Ben has come a long way through a tough time," Olsson added. "It's very impressive to see him rock out."

John Mahon

Many of Guy Babylon's friends and relatives were in the audience, including his widow, songwriter Kathy Babylon, his parents and his sister. Also present were several VIP guests from music, film and television, including actor/singer Frankie Avalon, film composer Max Di Carlo, television writer/producer Charlie Bowyer, and film producer/director Peter R.J. Deyell.

"After watching him (Ben Babylon) perform, it's clear that he really understands music," Deyell said. "When he plays keyboards, his whole body is playing. The other musicians in the show were also excellent, especially the drummers."

Peter R.J. Deyell and Jesse Johnstone

Approximately two-dozen students from Rock Nation School took turns performing in the concert. Among them was drummer Juliet Johnstone, daughter of Davey Johnstone. Also performing was Johnstone's son, Jesse, who is a professional recording engineer, but also plays bass, as well as other instruments.

Rock Nation is a private rock-music school with four locations throughout the Los Angeles area. Owner Tony Avalon has produced many tribute concerts featuring the music of different rock stars. However, said that having members of the Elton John Band take time to perform onstage with his students, at no charge, was especially meaningful.

Davey Johnstone

"This show was a celebration of two musical geniuses," he said. "It was very heart-warming. Everybody in the audience was blown away, and the kids were awesome. Having them play with rock stars that I looked up to was amazing. It was a night to remember."

Max Di Carlo, Davey Johnstone

Hello! If you're here from the title, you know what I'm looking for!

I've been writing music for 10+ years but have never considered myself a good (or even decent) lyricist. I'm looking for someone to team up with and maybe we can write some killer songs!

Please e-mail me if you're interested, tell me your three favorite songs (and why) and feel free to include some sample lyrics if you want!

Elton John memorabilia on sale

Sir Elton John memorabilia is going on sale

Monday September 27 2010
A highly-prized collection of Sir Elton John memorabilia which is being sold by his mother is generating global interest from buyers, auctioneers have said.
The treasure trove includes more than 100 gold and platinum discs, tour jackets and VIP passes his mother, Sheila Farebrother, used for backstage access at his concerts.
Two multi-platinum discs marking the success of Candle In The Wind, which recorded more than 33 million sales when it was re-released in tribute to Diana, Princess of Wales in 1997, are being sold.
There are also two platinum discs for the first million sales of the 1973 album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, plus items from Bob Halley, the musician's manager for more than 30 years.
Among the 227 items from Sir Elton are four silk Versace stage suits that he wore on tour and artwork by Sam Taylor-Wood which featured on the sleeve of his album, Songs from the West Coast.
But the highlight of the sale is said to be two sets of framed discs commemorating the 63-year-old musician's 43 million record sales in the United States.
Mrs Farebrother is selling the collection at Gorringes Auctioneers in Lewes, East Sussex, on October 19 as she has downsized to a new home on the south coast.
She said: "It wasn't until the concert in Madison Square Garden in 1974 when John Lennon made an appearance on stage and sang with Elton that I realised he had become a world superstar."

Top 20 Elton John Hits

]Reginald Kenneth Dwight was born in Pinner, Middlesex, England in 1947. In 1966, Elton formed his first band called Bluesology. Bluesology started out backing visiting U.S. soul artists, like the Isley Brothers, Billy
Stewart and Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles.

Also, in 1966, Bluesology became the supporting band for Long John Baldry. In fact, it was from this band that Reginald got his stage name by taking the first names of Bluesology band members Elton Dean and John Baldry.

Elton teamed up with lyricist Bernie Taupin in 1967 in a partnership that continues today. They formed Rocket Records in 1973.

On the big screen, you'll see Elton playing the Pinball Wizard in Pete Townsend's film version of "Tommy."

Little known fact: Elton plays piano on the Hollies 1970 hit, "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother."

On the charts, Elton John has had at least one Billboard top 40 song every year between 1970 and 1990, including seven number one hits. He also has had seven consecutive number one albums.

Here are Elton John's twenty biggest single hits, according to Billboard magazine:

1. That's What Friends Are For - 1986 - Elton's last #1 single, but his biggest, was a collaboration with Dionne Warwick, Gladys Knight and Stevie Wonder. Proceeds from this song went into AIDS research.

2. Don't Go Breaking My Heart - 1976 - a duet with Kiki Dee.

3. Crocodile Rock - 1973 - Elton's first #1 single.

4. Island Girl - 1975

5. Philadelphia Freedom - 1975 - listed as The Elton John Band.

6. Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds - 1975 - a credit on the label goes to "the Reggae guitars of Dr. Winston O'Boogie" who was actually John Lennon doing backup vocals.

7. Bennie and the Jets - 1974 - from the "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" album.

8. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - 1973

9. Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me - 1974 - from the "Caribou" album.

10. I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That - 1988

11. Daniel - 1973 - from the "Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only The Piano Player" album.

12. Little Jeannie - 1980 - Elton's biggest hit in four years.

13. I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues - 1984 - harmonica solo by Stevie Wonder.

14. Someone Saved My Life Tonight - 1975 - from the "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy" album, which went to #1 on the album charts the first week it was released.

15. The Bitch Is Back - 1974

16. Sad Songs (Say So Much) - 1984

17. Rocket Man - 1972 - a song often compared to David Bowie's "Space Oddity."

18. Candle In The Wind - 1987 - originally recorded in 1973 for the "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" album, this haunting ballad was rerecorded with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and is a tribute to Marilyn Monroe. It has sold over 37 million copies.

19. Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word - 1976 - from the "Blue Moves" album.

20. Nikita - 1986 - featuring backing vocals from George Michael of Wham! fame.

Elton John was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 and he was knighted in 1998.

Billboard ranked Elton, in 2008, as the most successful male artist on their list of "Top 100 All Time Artists", coming in third, overall, just behind The Beatles and Madonna.

Songwriter and longtime Elton John collaborator Bernie Taupin is also a painter. Although his artwork has been available in the past, he has recently joined with Limelight Agency to “reboot” his art program. According to his website, “Limelight honcho Daniel Crosby is the man responsible for aiding and encouraging Bernie to rise from the ashes and return to the creative platform. Expect to see a major resurgence in both Bernie’s output of abstract and multi-media canvases along with a higher profile on the celebrity art scene.”
In describing his artwork, Taupin says:
“Canvas to me is simply the visual extension of what I have spent my life creating through words. The imagination, in my estimation, is the most powerful tool the artist possess enabling us to conjure up beautiful distraction for the ears and eyes.
I have no formula except that which comes from what I dream, feel and see. To me colors are like words…they express emotions…likewise texture and mediums display an abundance of moods.”

I guess that's what they call it the blues".
- Quase sempre a música de fundo é "I'm still standing". Freud talvez explique.
Acabamos encontrando o Café do Teatro Glaucio Gil.

Me & Helen & Bernie Taupin Atlantic City 1990
I worked in music retail for years starting with the musicland group and ending at Best Buy. Music has been my passion for years along with so many of you redheads.
In 1990 I was living in Westport Conn.managing a Sam Goody music store.
My friend Helen & I, drove to Atlantic City to see Elton John perform at the Trump Taj Mahal. The show was awesome and although we didn`t get to hang with Elton, we did meet his long-time lyricist Bernie Taupin. It was awesome and a dream come true for Helen.
I will never forget the day Neil Sedaka (for those of you who remember him) came in my store to shop. I was star struck!
I have been very blessed in my life.
Maybe one day, by some miracle I`ll have a picture of Sam & I. Gotta try. Thats what dreams R made of.
Peace all

Taormina: stasera Elton John e Ray Cooper in concerto al Teatro Antico
http://www.tempostretto.it/8/index.php?location=articolo&id_articolo=43963

When Leon Russell first began his musical career it was as a session keyboardist, a specialist blues boogie player he was part of Phil Spector’s studio team in the Sixties. Then he struck out on his own, building his own studio and crafting his own songs.
His first hit was Delta Lady, performed by Joe Cocker. After that he had success with the song Superstar, which was made famous by The Carpenters and later revived by Sonic Youth.

When Elton John visited New York for the first time his idol was Russell, a piano -playing singer who he says influenced him more than any other. After John’s show at the famous Troubadour club in 1970 and after just one meeting the pair decided to tour together.
The Union is an album where they reunite after decades of differing fortunes. John is now Sir Elton John, and has truly experienced superstardom, with all the highs and lows that accompany that status, whilst Russell has steadily kept doing what he has always done, playing piano for well known artists, writing songs and recording in studios in his home state of Oklahoma, a much more private life by comparison.
This is not only collaboration between Russell and John. The project has contributions from lyricist Bernie Taupin, Brian Wilson, Neil Young and producer T Bone Burnett and many of the top session players in American music.
The production talents of Burnett are showcased by the interaction between players, arrangements and the crystal clear vision shown with each track. What impresses me about The Union is that it seems to bring out the best in both Russell and John, and Neil Young’s vocal performance on the track he sings on is brilliant too, like everyone is raising the level of their playing because of those around them.
With a vocal style that is understated, almost effortless, Russell contrasts with John, who sings with an ever-present emotive gusto.  The tracks that stand out the best are those that have the gospel choir backing, horn sections and full accompanying stomping rhythm. This rhythm is complemented by the dueling pianos and overall musician ship of the band.

Elton John AIDS Foundation supports University's HIV programme

Liverpool, UK - 16 September 2010: The University of Liverpool has been awarded funding by the Elton John AIDS Foundation to increase awareness of the problem of drug interactions in HIV positive patients as they face ageing-related conditions and illnesses.
HIV - Human Immunodeficiency Virus – is a retrovirus that infects cells of the immune system, destroying or impairing their function.  As the infection progresses, the immune system becomes weaker and the person becomes more susceptible to other infections.  The most advanced stage of HIV infection is Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
Anti-HIV or antiretroviral drugs dramatically slow down the process of cell damage.    Patients receiving combinations of antiretrovirals – so called Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) - can now expect to have a near-normal life expectancy.  However, these drugs can sometimes interact with each other and with any other drugs that the patient may be taking at the same time.
The Elton John AIDS Foundation has supported  the University of Liverpool to develop its HIV drug interactions website (www.hiv-druginteractions.org) so that the web content is both user friendly and relevant to patient needs in different parts of the world.  A low technology version of the website will be designed for low bandwidth meaning that people in areas without fast internet connections, such as the developing world and remote locations, can access the website quickly and easily. This version will also include the key drugs used in developing countries.
Sir Elton John said: "Over the past three years we have made enormous progress in scaling up ARV treatment around the world.  We need to be sure that treatment can be managed well. To do that, the world’s healthcare professionals need to know as much as possible about the drugs they prescribe.  This project will help them maintain safe treatment for thousands of people living with HIV around the world"
The HIV drug interactions website provides a comprehensive online guide to the interactions between  antiretroviral drugs and between antiretrovirals and other drugs.  When drugs are taken in combination they may interact: sometimes the HIV drugs may be made ineffective or may give unexpected adverse effects and the same can be true for a co-prescribed drug. The situation is further complicated if HIV patients take not only prescribed medications but other over-the-counter, recreational or herbal drugs in addition to their HIV drug treatments.
Professor David Back said: “We are delighted to receive this award which will enable us to provide HIV patients and healthcare professionals in the UK and overseas with access to information about HIV drug interactions that is relevant, reliable and up-to-date and can be accessed via a free, user-friendly and open service. With pressure on drugs budgets in developed world and limited access to anatiretrovirals in developing countries, it is vital to ensure the optimisation of therapy. ”
There are currently 25 different antiretrovirals available to treat HIV. Antiretroviral treatment reduces both the mortality and morbidity of HIV infection.  The HIV drug interactions website provides drug interaction charts, an FAQ section and information on the latest research in HIV drug developments.  More recently, a facility to download the information to pocket PC devices was added which enables doctors and health professionals on the move to access the latest information without access to an internet connection.  An ‘App’ for iPhone is currently in development.

The greatest love story ever told, starring...garden gnomes? In "Gnomeo & Juliet," Shakespeare's revered tale gets a comical, off-the-wall makeover. Directed by Kelly Asbury (co-director of "Shrek 2") and showcasing both classic and original songs by Elton John, the film features the voices of James McAvoy and Emily Blunt as Gnomeo and Juliet, who have as many obstacles to overcome as their quasi namesakes when they are caught up in a feud between neighbors. But with plastic pink flamingos and thrilling lawnmower races in the mix, can this young couple find a happy ending?

Genre: Family, Action and Adventure, Romance
Director: Kelly Asbury
Cast: James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Michael Caine, Jason Statham, Maggie Smith, Patrick Stewart, Ashley Jensen, Stephen Merchant, Matt Lucas, Jim Cummings, Julie Walters, Richard Wilson, Ozzy Osbourne

Gnomeo and Juliet set for a February 11, 2011 release, says eOne Entertainment
Occasionally, movie ideas come along that studios have to fight over. Such is the case with Gnomeo and Juliet, a animated take on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet being produced by eOne Entertainment as part of Touchstone Pictures. And whom did they wrestle ownership away from? None other than , legends in the field of toons. But as John Lasseter and the rest of the group merged back into to focus on internal projects like this summer’s , Gnomeo and Juliet made it’s way to Pathe International, set for a February 11th, 2011 release. The film will still be distributed internationally by Walt Studios Motion Pictures, with a soundtrack provided by Elton John and James Newton Howard.
The voice-over cast features James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Michael Caine, Maggie Smith, Patrick Stewart, Jim Cummings, Stephen Merchant, Ozzy Osbourne, Jason Statham and Matt Lucas and also features songs by Elton John, who is an executive producer on the film, and Bernie Taupin.

your song o espetáculo em copacabana

GUILHERME HEUS

 Hannah Jacques

Elton john´s corporation: Me resuma, por favor, o conteúdo do espetáculo.

 GUILHERME HEUS

 Leandro Camacho

 Hannah Jacques

Hannah: O elenco, sou eu, Hannah Jacques e o Leandro Camacho.
