Hirst is known for his spin paintings - and the buyer of his latest creation will be able to take the valuable work out for a spin.
The candyfloss pink paint-splattered Audi A1 car has been spin painted by Hirst in his Gloucestershire studio and is described as ''fully driveable and road legal''.

Sir Elton said: ''This is one of the most exciting auction items we have ever had for White Tie.''
The annual glitzy bash is held at Sir Elton's home with partner David Furnish and raises money for the Elton John Aids Foundation (EJAF).
This year's event will be held on Thursday.
As part of the same lot, the car will be auctioned with a 6ft diameter canvas spin painting, which Hirst completed at the same time.
The A1 will not be seen on UK roads until November, and the special artwork was created ahead of the car's mainland European launch dates.
Audi UK director Jeremy Hicks said: ''We are enormously proud to support Sir Elton John's remarkable fundraising ball for the eighth year in succession with the donation of a priceless and unrepeatable work of art for auction.''

A 1996 Bentley Continental T Coupé, which was first owned by music legend Sir Elton John, was one of the highlights at Bonhams' Rolls-Royce, Bentley Motor Cars & Automobilia sale in Leicestershire on Saturday, June 19.

"This is a pleasing result showing a continuing demand for Rolls-Royce and Bentley motor cars," said Jamie Knight, Group Head of the Motoring Department at Bonhams.
Top prices were also paid for a 1924 Rolls-Royce 45/50 hp Silver Ghost Drophead Coupé - formerly the property of famous motoring author and collector David Scott-Moncrieff - which brought £82,900.

Other big sales included a 1930 Rolls-Royce 40/50hp Phantom II Sedanca de Ville, previously owned by Emily Macy Brewster of the Brewster coachbuilding family, sold for £77,400, and a 1949 Bentley Drophead Coupé, which made £52,100.
In other Elton John auction news, a stunning and stylish Art Deco statuette formerly owned by the star, The Cigarette Girl, also auctioned at Bonhams earlier this month for £25,200.

Belgraders have had the chance to party with the stars this month, with four musical greats performing in the Serbian capital. Audiences were treated to the sounds of Billy Idol, Elton John, Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton.
Idol played at Usce Park on Monday night (June 21st) as part of his European summer tour, which also took him to Skopje. Idol is no stranger to Serbia — four years ago, he was at the Exit festival in Novi Sad.
On June 9th, Clapton took the stage with Steve Winwood, attracting 16,000 people to the Belgrade Arena. The seasoned performer told the crowd that he well remembered his concert in the Serbian capital three decades ago.
The two-hour concert offered one hit after another, including “Had to Cry Today”, “Dear Mr. Fantasy” and “Layla”. Clapton wove long solos through his performance, including nearly ten minutes of guitar virtuosity during the song “Voodoo Chile”. The audience rewarded it with a loud ovation.

Tulsa Sound icon Leon Russell and influential pop and rock star Elton John have worked together on a new album, "The Union," produced by T Bone Burnett. Both spoke to Rolling Stone about the collaboration for an upcoming issue.

It's the first time the duo have worked together since 1970, they told Rolling Stone's David Fricke in a recent interview. A album release date hasn't been announced.

Just three weeks after Russell had brain surgery in January, he was in the studio with John, the magazine reports.

Legendary organist Booker T. Jones (Booker T. and the MGs) also appears on the album, which features songwriting by John, Russell and Taupin and guest vocals from a gospel choir, Neil Young and Brian Wilson, the magazine reports.

Says John of the album track "Monkey Suit," "No one uses two pianos on a record anymore, since Phil Spector, probably. The original track of this is just Leon and me playing pianos, perfectly in time. We recorded the band on top of that, because we couldn't make it any better."

By the way, Russell was also part of the revolutionary producer Spector's backing band, the Wrecking Crew.

Read about it in the newest issue of Rolling Stone magazine for the week of July 8-22. The issue

Elton John, Leon Russell, & T Bone Burnett unite for collaborative album

http://consequenceofsound.net/2010/06/23/elton-john-leon-russell-t-bone-burnett-unite-for-collaborative-album/

By Alex Young on June 23rd, 2010 in News

40 years after they embarked on a tour together, legendary musicians Elton John and Leon Russell have again united, this time for the release of a collaborative studio album. Direct Current reports the pair recently wrapped up recording the aptly titled Union, which was produced by the equally legendary producer T Bone Burnett and written by John and longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin.
Back in February, Taupin reported on his blog that John, Russell, and Burnett had cut 15 songs, ranging from “Stones like rockers, Country tinged ballads, Gospel and even a Sinatra like weepy similar to something torn from the grooves of “In the Wee Small Hours”…  It’s varied in scope and drenched in a rich tapestry of atmospherics. Don’t expect to hear the old EJ/BT sound; this is organic recording unlike anything you’ve heard from our duo before.”
Also appearing on the effort will be a slew of high-profile guests, including Neil Young and Brian Wilson — who both reportedly provided background vocals — and organist Booker T Jones.
Decca Records has set an October 19th release date for the album.
As alluded to in the opening, John and Russell have a long history together. In 1970, John opened for Russell at a series of US tour dates. The men have also long expressed admiration for one another with John going as far to call Russell his “musical hero.” Incredibly enough, the duo’s studio collaboration came just three weeks after Russell had brain surgery in January.
